Woodland

canopy

The canopy of tree foliage creates shade; different trees will eventually have a varied range of shrubs and plants growing beneath them

All kinds of woody shrubs  are part of a native woodland, providing food for wildlife. These will be flowering at different times of year to supply pollen, nectar and berries for most of the year round.

Glades allow sunlight into a woodland, for the wild flowers and grasses that bring butterflies and insects. These spaces are also important areas for birds and small mammals.

The old hollow trees are home for bats, owls and other birds, squirrels and and thousands of insects.
