Cornwall Mining World Heritage Site recognises the importance of
Cornwall's contribution to the development of the modern
industrialised world.
There are 12 sites within the WHS; we are on the edge of the Caradon
Mining District and just 12 miles from Tavistock. |
Launceston Castle >
The Castle dates from the early years of the Norman conquest; built
by Count Robert Mortain who was William The Conquerors half brother.
Still standing are the mound with its store keep and high tower, the
ruined gatehouses and curtain wall, on the impressive earthworks.

Tintagel Castle

The legendary home of King Arthur
The ruins of a 13th century settlement on the rugged north coast
cliffs, probably a royal site for Dark Age rulers of Cornwall. Then
walk south from here along beautiful cliffs with a Site of Special
Scientific Interest, or go further north to Rocky Valley.

Cadsonbury Hill Fort
near Callington
A massive bank and ditch encompasses the hilltop, once the
impressive home of a local chief.
Park by the River Lynher near Callington at Newbridge and walk along the level paths before the climb
to the hill

Castle Drogo >
on
the edge of Dartmoor
'The 'last castle to be built in England', designed
by Sir Edwin Lutyens and built 1911-1931, with extraordinary granite
and oak. Walks above the 300 foot gorge and down into the woods
along the River Teign.

Bronze Age) and the impressive Cheesewring granite formation.
There's a car park and gentle
moorland walks are easy to access here.

Bude Museum,
Bude on the north coast
A small museum mainly about the Bude canal
and includes a working model of an incline plane.
It is interesting to walk by the canal, the
first two miles of which are in usable order.
