Mammals

It is fantastic to see wildlife around us, or even if we don't actually see the animal, we see the signs and know that they are there.

badger

In the valley we have badger setts; you will see the holes with spoil heaps at the tunnel entrance, often there is discarded bedding outside. Badgers are omnivores; mainly eating earthworms, their diet includes insects, berries, fruit, mice, hedgehogs, bulbs, also vegetation in late summer and autumn. Badgers are nocturnal and you may be lucky enough to see a badger in the late evening when they are most active..

bat

Bats are seen at dusk as they emerge from their roost to hunt around the buildings and trees. These are the common Pipistrelle bats, although we have also seen Noctule bats. All British bats feed on insects; our garden and valley are good feeding areas for them.
